The First Meeting on Tourism as a Means of Sustainable Development

On May 30, 31, and June 1, 2022, the First Meeting on Tourism as a means of sustainable development will be held in Cuenca.


The PREIT-tour research group is organizing the event as part of the project "Fostering a platform for research-based education to support sustainable development through tourism in the Cajas Massif Biosphere Area (CMBA)," which is being developed by the University of Cuenca (Faculty of Hospitality Sciences) and KU Leuven (Faculty of Sciences - Division of Geography and Tourism) with funding from the VLIRUOS program (Belgian Government).


Some guests come from Belgium (Dr. Dominique Vanneste, Ph.D., Dr. Thérèse Steenberghen, Ph.D., Dr. Arie Stoffelen, Ph.D.) Colombia (Drs. Mónica Guasca) and Ecuador (Dr. Xavier Contreras, Ph.D., and others). In addition, academics, communities, NGOs, students, and authorities will participate.


The venue of the educational event will be the Aula Magna Mario Vintimilla of the University of Cuenca (Central Campus). During the three days, there will be lectures, round tables, presentations, plenary sessions, and discussions on the event's theme.
